Science
Science Curriculum Statement
Science is an important subject, it tells us who we are, where we came from, how our bodies work, how the world around us works, why things happen. It is a wonderous subject where fire erupts from nothing, where colours change before your eyes, bubbles appear from nowhere, smells, sights and experiences abound. But more importantly than all of this, science teaches us to be patient, to be good researchers, to think – I wonder what will happen if? To be observers of what is happening around us, to be diligent recorders of evidence, to be critical thinkers analysing data and patterns, to be forward thinking individuals, to work as a team, to be brilliant alone, to be honest evaluators of our own skills and knowledge as well as that of others. All of these qualities are sought by potential future employers. In the science department at Hednesford Valley High School we want students to enjoy their science lessons and we want them to be higher skilled more rounded individuals when they leave. As a department our skilled staff will work with your child to try and make sure that this is exactly what happens!
Science Curriculum Intent
Science at Hednesford Valley High School aims to help students to learn about how the universe they live in works. In doing this we want students to become more inquisitive, better problem solvers, with good prediction, planning, observation, communication, evaluation skills and knowledge as well as be more resilient learners who can work well in a team or alone. Learning these skills and knowledge will enable them to be ready for further education and the world of work, to be the best they can be.
