The Gun Powder Plot

In this unit students learn about the Gunpowder plot including Charles 1st and the puritans.

 

The Great Plague

Students will learn about the black death from the two periods in History. 1347 – 1350 and 1665 – 1666.  Students will then learn about the Great Fire of London and how it has been credited with wiping out the plague.

 

Tudors & Stuarts

In this unit students will learn about the what Britain was like during the Stuarts and Tudors Reign

Looking at your local History

This unit aims to enable learners to study an historical issue or area of local interest and importance

Industrial Revolution

In this Unit students are to understand the Industrial Revolution they will explore, what a Revolution is, understand how Britain Changed during the Revolution and they will investigate workhouse and the jobs children had during the period.

 

Medicine through time

Introduction and overview to Medicine in Britain, c1800-present. How and why have ideas about the cause of disease and illness and approaches to prevention and treatment changed over time?

Year 9

World War 1

By the end of this Unit students will have a good understanding of how WW1 began, the impact it had on people during that time and the changes this period has had on the modern-day world

The Victorians

Students will understand key features that affected people’s lives in Britain in the past; this will be taught through closely looking at a specific period in British History: The Victorians. Students will move on to look at similarities and differences between the past and present and will be encouraged to use historical sources to find out about Britain past and present.

 

World War 2

Students will understand key features that affected people’s lives in Britain in the past; this will be taught through closely looking at a specifically WW2. Students will move on to look at similarities and differences between the past and present and will be encouraged to use historical sources to find out about Britain past and present.

Geography Key Skills

Students will learn key skills involved in the topic of Geography

· Map Skills

Types of energy

Students will examine why we need renewable sources of energy and look at the different types of renewable energy being used such as solar and wind.  Students will also examine non-renewable energy from Fossil Fuels

Weather and Climate

Student’s will look at how climate change has affected the weather.  Students will look at how the weather forecast is predicted and created.  Students will also discuss how the changes are concerning scientists regarding future climate changes.

Year 8

 

Natural Disasters

The students will learn about a variety of natural disasters, including earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

 

The Environment

Students investigate the impact of rubbish on the environment both locally and globally.  Students also look at Global warning and the impact that has on the environment

Somewhere Different

Students examine the differences between two different areas of the world:

· Antarctica and Polar Regions (Glorification)

· Galapagos

Year 9

Rivers and Mountains

Students understand and describe the key aspects of physical geography including rivers, mountains, and the water cycle.

Use maps, atlases, globes, and digital computer mapping to locate countries and describe the features studied.

 

Investigating Coasts

Students will understand that our coastline is continually shaped and changed by physical and human processes, the coast is eroding and threatening settlements

Changing Populations

Students in this topic investigate Human Populations, different types of settlements, how people live and different types of ecosystems

Students will work creatively to enhance their learning experience. They will find out where Hinduism originated, about special places linked to Hinduism and about key festivals in Hindu life including the symbols in Hinduism, the Hindu holy book and the main beliefs held by Hindu’s.

Students will work creatively to enhance their learning experience. They will find out where Sikhism originated, about special places linked to Sikhism and about key festivals in Sikhs life including the symbols in Sikhism, the Sikh holy book and the main beliefs held by Sikhs.

 

Judaism

Students will work creatively to enhance their learning experience. They will find out where Judaism originated, about special places linked to Judaism and about key festivals in Jew’s life including the symbols in Judaism, the Jewish holy book and the main beliefs held by Jews.

Year 10

ASDAN Beliefs and Values

In this unit all students will:

Consider a place of natural awe and wonder and share their own experience.  Share ideas about how natural phenomena in the world came into existence.  Show how a famous religious leader inspired others with their beliefs. Consider whether this person is still influential today. To write a review of a religious service or event that they have attended.

Take part in a discussion on their beliefs. Take part in a small group discussion in the power of love and hate and how it affects them, their community and others in the world.

AQA Unit Awards 

In this unit all students will:

Students will examine the Christian belief on Relationships and the thoughts on Crime and Punishment.
